Gardeners of Tomorrow Info Session

For middle school and high school youth. Free.

This summer program is designed to offer a very flexible time commitment for this busy age group. Youth will find a variety of areas to explore at their own pace and as they have time, including gardening, cooking, community service and more! Free. Informational sessions for Gardeners of Tomorrow:

• Tuesday, May 23: 6:30-7 pm
• Wednesday, May 24: 6:30-7 pm

Program Opportunities:

• Enhance your knowledge of food and nutrition and learn how to prepare healthy snacks and dishes from the garden. In 2023 the focus will be on growing fruits, vegetables, and herbs found in Mexican cuisine.
• Participate in hands-on opportunities to learn livestock management through the care of the chickens in the Happy Hen House.
• Learn how to grow healthy food without the use of pesticides.
• Gain social and multi-generational skills by helping out with the kids’ Garden Explorers program on Friday mornings and with the Senior Raised Bed program.
• Gain entrepreneurial skills through selling produce at Fresh on Fridays and the Clear Lake Farmers Market.
• Earn silver cord hours or community service experience promoting efforts to reduce food insecurity.
• Improve your production and social media skills through the creation of posts related to the program.
• Learn how to select appropriate flowers and use design techniques to create a beautiful bouquet.
• Make intergenerational friendships through community gardening activities.
• Visit a nearby farm to learn about their practices.

• Thursday, May 25, 4:30-6 pm: Planting Party in the Bee Happy Discovery Garden
• Wednesdays beginning May 31, 3-4:15: Harvest and deliver products and bouquets to the Clear Lake/Ventura Food Pantry
• Wednesdays beginning May 31, 4:15-5:15: Learning from the Garden – we will explore garden care and create and taste from the garden.
• July 8, August 12, Sept 16: Food and bouquet stand at the Clear Lake Farmers Market!
• Fridays, June 2 – August 25, 8:30 am-11:15 am: Fresh on Fridays/Garden Explorers – sell products, make bouquets, help with the kid’s program and more.
